Apollo’s Love

£125.00

Dimensions: 20 X 20cm (0.4cm depth)

Materials: Oil paint on canvas board

Description: Original oil painting (frame not included).

I love hyacinths! They have the most amazing scent and are a painter’s dream with their paintbrush-sized and shaped petals.

But, why is it named ‘Apollo’s Love’? It’s after the Greek myth about the youth Hyacinthus and the god Apollo. There are a few versions about this myth, but all involve the following:

  • a Spartan youth named Hyacinthus,

  • the god Apollo being in love with him (or his sister in one version because it was too controversial!),

  • Hyacinthus being killed with a discus by Apollo,

  • and finally, a flower growing out of Hyacinthus’ blood.

With this story in mind, it was a joy to paint each petal with lively brush strokes, representing life being reborn out of tragedy. As a friend once said to me after a tragedy of my own, ‘life always finds a way, and thank goodness for that’.

OIL PAINTINGS:

All my oil paintings are left to dry for a minimum of six months and finished with Winsor & Newton satin varnish to lift the colours and protect the paintings.

FRAMING:

All my artworks are easy to frame. They are sold WITHOUT a frame to keep costs down and allow you to decide on what frame will look best in your home. However, some listings have an ‘add on’ feature where you can select a frame that has been custom made for that painting. An ‘add on’ frame IS AVAILABLE for this painting and the artwork will be attached unless otherwise requested.

PACKAGING:

Your artwork will be packaged securely and as eco-friendly as possible. I use acid free tissue paper to cover the paintings, place inside a water-tight plastic bag, then cover with paper bubble wrap or cardboard and send in a secure postal box. Click here to see more.

All come with a CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY.
