Dress to Impress

£90.00

Dimensions: 19 X 29cm

Materials: Chalk Pastels on Recycled Cardboard

Description: Original Painting

This painting of a pair of pastel-coloured, silk and satin mules, with silver studs was made in 2021 after re-discovering the hand-made shoes that I designed and created back in 1992! I studied ‘Footwear Design and Manufacture’ at Cordwainer’s College (now part of London College of Fashion). My final collection was inspired by the ballet, which is why they are all made with silks and satins and adorned with diamantés and pearls. To see the rest of my paintings of my Final Shoe Collection, please click here. I have also painted some of my favourite bought shoes (sadly, not designed by me!).

Painting in chalk pastels takes a lot of time and concentration as a wrong mark cannot be removed and care must be taken to prevent smudging. A good canvas is also very important, and I discovered that the inside of the cardboard Amazon envelopes work perfectly for chalk pastels and are a great way of upcycling. PLEASE NOTE: due to the nature of the ‘canvas’, there may be some imperfections, adding to the story of this piece.

CHALK PASTEL PAINTINGS:

All my chalk pastel paintings are fixed with Winsor & Newton professional fixative. However, care must still be taken when handling so as not to smudge the artwork. See note in ‘framing’ section below for further advice.

FRAMING:

These artworks are easy to frame. They are sold WITHOUT a frame to keep costs down and allow you to decide on what frame will look best in your home. The chalk pastel paintings should be framed with a glass or Perspex front to protect them.

PACKAGING:

Your artwork will be packaged securely and as eco-friendly as possible. I use acid free tissue paper to cover the paintings, plenty of clean, repurposed cardboard to prevent damage, and bubble wrap for larger paintings, if needed. With chalk pastel paintings, please take extra care when unwrapping to keep smudge-free. More information on packaging.

CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY:

All come with a CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY.
